Well, CareerCast used a variety of factors to put together two lists of the best and worst jobs of 2013.

Best and Worst Jobs of 2013

Based on a wide range of aspects, which they categorized into four “Core Criteria:” environment, income, outlook, and stress. Additionally, each includes a range of sub-categories.

Environment includes emotional and physical factors like competitiveness and physical demands. Income is determined by adding the estimated mid-level income for each job to the income growth potential. Outlook is based on a ranking system based on three factors: employment growth, income growth outlook, and unemployment outlook. Stress is based on a combination of 11 factors such as travel, growth potential, deadlines, environmental conditions, and life risk.

Together, these criteria led to determining the best and worst jobs of 2013. The data for each job comes from the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), other governmental agencies, trade associations, and private survey firms.
